Free time

Throughout the year, we run 6 events for volunteers and students to take part in.

February - Support our Supplies Drive!
This is a crowdfunding event but is highly enjoyable to take part in the excitement of purchasing all of the equipment for the student's start to the new year.
Although state schooling is considered free, there are a number of hidden costs, for example, each child must have two school uniforms, a number of exercise books, pens, pencils, rubbers, paints, textbooks and much more. We spend a few days purchasing everything that the children require and present it to them.
The excitement no their faces is a rewarding sight!

April - Visit Historic Sites

We take a day-trip, sometimes with the students depending on how far it is away, to a historic site in the Ancash region. For example, in the past we have visited Wilcahuain, Chavín de Huántar and more.
When the students attend, we also provide lunch and games on arrival as well as exploring the site. This is a way for you to learn the amazing Peruvian history alongside the students.

June - First Camping Trip of the Year!

This will be a field trip with some of the older students or with the local volunteer tutors. This is a great opportunity to get to know each other and work as a team.
Our Director Yuri is an amazing trekker and guide so he will introduce you to the mountains of Huaraz. Previously, we have hiked to Laguna Chavin, Laguna Ahuac and more and all the volunteers love it!

August - Rock Climbing

Huaraz is located near the Cordillera Blanca which is a mountain range renowned for its hiking as well as rock climbing. Volunteers will have the opportunity to go to either Mateo or Urus to climb.
Mateo is located in the spectacular Ulta Valley surrounded by many of the biggest peaks in the Huascaran National Park and would be a one-day climb, whereas Urus offers great views of the Cordillera Blanca and Laguna Akilpo but would take two days.
Rock climbing is easier to do in a group so it would be great with a group of volunteers and could be fantastic for team work.

October - Last Camping Trip of the Year

October marks the end of the intense trekking season due to the change in season, so we celebrate with one last trek and camp either with local volunteer tutors and older students or just with international volunteers.
Our Director Yuri will plan the route and guide the group according to their interests and abilities. Previously, Laguna Chavin and Laguna Ahuac have been popular hiking choices.
December - Santa Dash!
This is our most exciting fundraising event of the year and a day that the kids look forward to. This annual tradition sees our students dress up as Santa and take part in a fun run. We encourage volunteers to help with encouraging the kids, handing out water, selling food and hand-made jewellery to the locals who enjoy watching the race.
This is not only a highly enjoyable day, but additionally raises a significant amount of money which goes towards our Nutrition Project in the new year - providing snacks and nutritious meals each day during the children's school holidays.
